Tarxia

Passionate about craftsmanship and tradition, and understanding the value of today’s world, I have always wondered how to bridge the gap between the past and the future. How to incorporate the centuries of artisan tradition into today’s world?

As a result of this interest, I met the workshop of Munira, in the heart of Granada.

Munira

Solving challenges is one of the most rewarding parts of craftsmanship. In a society where the tendency is to systematize, each new project requires a totally different mindset.

When Tarxia approached us, with the idea of this new project that has finally been launched, it required a certain amount of reflection. Will we be able to do it? Do we have the necessary know-how? Are we able to achieve the quality standards he offers with his products? The answer, as of today, is a resounding yes. But many prototypes have been left behind, which were necessary to reach the final product. Research, choice of materials and specific techniques resulted in this elegant collection of leather products inspired by the traditional embossing of Granada.

Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife

Tarxia and Lavevata eyewear design iPhone and sunglasses cases with Taracea exclusive for Alhambra shops.

Throughout the history The Alhambra has been and is a place of inspiration for many artists. Now, some pieces that are preserved in the museum, have served as a model to designing cases for the iphone and for sunglasses. A collection that arises as a result of the agreement between the concessionary stores, the Alhambra and the Andalusian artisans of Tarxia and Laveta Eyewear with the approval of the Board of the Alhambra and Generalife.

Laveta x Tarxia

The collaboration between Laveta and Tarxia comes from a mutual admiration and their ability to complement different proposals. Whereas in Laveta sunglasses the use of a solid block of wood out of which the sunglasses are created is a key aspect, Tarxia paradoxically uses the mosaic technique, which is based on the union of multiple and independent pieces. In this way, we believe that Tarxia contributes to a new perspective in Laveta’s work: the wood is in conversation with other elements and the result is an enriched product. On the other hand, Tarxia finds a new format through Laveta: an original canvas, an exciting challenge. An exclusive edition made of traditional wooden Taracea skin, an Arabian Andalusi technique that comes from Granada, a city where artisans have preserved the purity and the original style of this authentical process.

Tarxia’s major contribution is explained with the fact that they succeded in making the 700-year-old Taracea technique look modern nowadays. Using noble materials, these meticulous professionals work on the setting of thousands of individual pieces in the shape of unique geometrical compositions that become beautiful and complex mosaics. On Laveta’s part, there is a strong believe that a handmade product must be carefully handled in order to obtain a unique product. These sunglasses are the result of a magical cultural blend between the capital city of the Costa del Sol and the Alhambra hometown.
Laveta X Tarxia has cared for the smallest details both in the design and manufacture of these sunglasses, using 100% natural materials and high quality Carl Zeiss Vision lens.

We love Taracea!
